Community Standards
Connection works when safety and consent come first.
These standards apply everywhere on SocialSession — profiles, photos, meetup listings, chat, feedback, endorsements, and reports. They are part of the Terms of Service, and they are enforced with photo review, member reports, blocks, a private safety queue, enforcement actions, appeals, and an append-only audit record.
SocialSession is not an emergency service and does not monitor meetups. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number before you do anything else. Report to us afterwards so the account can be acted on.
1. Adults only
- SocialSession is for people age 18 and older. Meetups centred on alcohol are limited to members 21 and older. Do not create an account if you are younger, and do not create one for someone else.
- Do not invite, bring, or arrange a meetup with anyone under 18, or with anyone under 21 for a Meetup centred on alcohol.
- Never sexualise, exploit, solicit, groom, or endanger a minor, in any content, anywhere on the service. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation and report it to NCMEC and law enforcement — see Safety & Child Protection.
- If you believe an account belongs to someone under 18, report it. Do not confront the person, investigate them yourself, or publish anything about them.
2. Mutual intent, in public
- SocialSession supports friendship, activity partners, and mutually opted-in dating interest. Dating interest is shown only when both adults select it. It is not permission for sexual contact and may be withdrawn at any time.
- No hookup solicitation, escort services, explicit sexual content, unwanted sexual attention, coercion, or pressure after someone disengages.
- Hold your first meetup with someone at a named public venue — a café, park, library, shop, or similar place that is open to the public. Do not list, propose, or move a first meetup to a private home, a vehicle, or a members-only space.
- Confirm the venue's rules, hours, accessibility, and whether your activity is permitted. A listing on SocialSession is not permission from the venue and does not guarantee it is open, accessible, or suitable.
- Show up, or cancel early enough that other people can adjust. Repeated no-shows are a standards issue, not just bad manners.
3. Respect people
No harassment, hate speech, threats, intimidation, violence, stalking, following someone after they disengage, impersonation, defamation, sexual solicitation, unwanted sexual attention, coercion, or attempts to pressure someone past a stated boundary.
Adults of every lawful background and identity are welcome here. Attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, immigration status, or serious illness are not.
4. Honour consent and boundaries
- "No", "not today", declining a request, leaving early, unmatching, and silence are all complete answers.
- Respect accessibility needs, sobriety choices, dietary and religious practices, and anyone's decision to keep their personal details private.
- Do not photograph, record, or post another member without their agreement.
- If someone blocks you, that is the end of the conversation. Do not create a new account, use a friend's account, or approach them through another meetup to reach them again.
5. Keep locations coarse and private
- Nearby is approximate on purpose. It shows a coarse area, never a map pin, and it is off until you switch it on. Do not try to defeat that — for example by posting exact coordinates, a live-location link, or a pin in a listing, a photo caption, or chat.
- No doxxing. Do not publish anyone's home or work address, phone number, employer, school, financial details, immigration status, health information, identity documents, or any other private information — theirs or your own, in a public listing.
- Share your own contact details only when you decide to, with people you have chosen to meet.
6. No commerce, and no regulated products
- Do not buy, sell, source, transfer, deliver, arrange pickup of, advertise, or promote tobacco, cannabis, vaping products, alcohol, firearms, pharmaceuticals, or any other regulated product through SocialSession.
- Do not use SocialSession for commercial solicitation of any kind — sales, recruiting, multi-level marketing, fundraising, ticketing, promotion of a business or venue, or driving traffic to another platform.
- Do not organise, encourage, or reward consumption challenges or any activity that presents a health or legal risk to participants.
SocialSession is a place to meet people. It is not a marketplace, a directory, or an advertising channel.
7. Be honestly yourself
- Use a profile photo that is actually of you, and a name people can address you by. No photos of someone else, no stock images, no celebrities, no logos.
- Do not misrepresent your age, your identity, or your reason for being here.
- No spam, scams, phishing, malware, fake listings, bots, automated accounts, or bulk-created accounts.
8. Content limits
Do not post sexual or pornographic content, graphic violence or gore, content that promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders, content promoting or organising terrorism, extremist violence, or a hate organisation, or content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or privacy.
Profile photos are reviewed before other members can see them, and content that breaks these rules is rejected.
9. Report and block
Every profile, roster row, message and meetup carries Report and Block controls. Use them.
- Blocking is immediate and mutual: you disappear from each other's discovery, meetups, chat and notifications. You can review and undo blocks in Nearby → Safety → Safety Center.
- Reporting sends the case to a private safety queue. You get a private receipt in the Safety Center showing the category, status, any action taken, the reason for the decision, and your appeal status.
- Your identity as a reporter is never shown to the person you reported, and reviewer notes are never shown to anyone outside the safety queue.
- Give the minimum detail needed to understand what happened. Do not attach other people's private information.
- Do not file false reports and do not retaliate against someone who reports you. Both are themselves violations.
- Review is not real-time, and reports do not reach emergency services. For immediate danger, call 911 first.
10. What happens when a standard is broken
Reports are triaged by severity. Depending on what happened, a reviewer may:
- remove or reject content, or a profile photo;
- cancel a meetup;
- restrict discovery, hosting, or meetup creation;
- suspend an account — which also removes its Nearby presence and cancels every meetup it was hosting;
- permanently remove an account;
- preserve the minimum records needed for safety, fraud prevention, disputes, or legal obligations.
Every assignment, severity change, note, warning, suspension, restoration, meetup cancellation, appeal and appeal decision is written to an append-only record. Reviewers act under a named role in our database; nobody can grant themselves that role from a device, and reviewers cannot act on their own account.
Cases involving credible threats, stalking, suspected involvement of a minor, or regulated-product commerce are escalated ahead of everything else, and discovery may be restricted while the case is reviewed.
11. Appeals
If your account or content is actioned, you get one appeal per decision. Open the receipt in the Safety Center, choose the decision, and explain what you believe was misjudged. A lead reviewer — not the person who made the original call — decides the appeal. A restored account regains access, but cancelled meetups are not reopened and removed content is not republished.
If you cannot reach the appeal flow, email info@socialsessionapp.com from the address on your account.
12. Changes
We will update these standards as the community grows. Material changes are posted here with a new effective date and must be accepted in the app.
