Terms of Service
Clear expectations for a respectful public meetup community.
These Terms are a contract between you and J&A APPworks LLC. By creating an account or using SocialSession, you agree to them.
SocialSession is not an emergency service. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first. SocialSession does not monitor meetups, does not verify identities, and cannot intervene in a real-world situation.
1. Who may use SocialSession
- You must be at least 18 years old. Meetups centred on alcohol are limited to members age 21 and older.
- You must give a real email address you control and an accurate date of birth, and keep your account information accurate.
- You must have the legal capacity to enter this contract, and you must not be barred from the service by law or by a previous SocialSession enforcement decision.
- One account per person. Do not share your account or let anyone else use it.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Tell us at info@socialsessionapp.com if you believe it has been compromised.
SocialSession verifies your email address and records your 18+ self-attestation. It does not verify identity, run background checks, or vouch for any member. See Age Eligibility.
2. What the service is
SocialSession helps adults plan small meetups at named public venues around conversation, hobbies, friendship, activity partners, and shared interests. Adults may privately indicate an openness to dating; that interest is shown only when both people select it. First in-person meetups take place at a named public venue. The service provides profiles, meetup listings, join requests, chat between accepted participants, optional approximate Nearby presence, reporting, blocking, and moderation.
3. What the service is not
SocialSession is not, and must not be used as:
- a swipe-based dating, hookup, escort, sexual-solicitation, or anonymous random-chat service;
- a marketplace, retailer, delivery, pickup, sourcing, or transfer service for any product — and expressly not for tobacco, cannabis, vaping products, alcohol, firearms, pharmaceuticals, or any other regulated product;
- an advertising, promotional, recruiting, or commercial-solicitation platform;
- a transportation provider;
- a medical, mental-health, treatment, cessation, or crisis service;
- an emergency service or a monitoring service;
- a private-home meetup directory or a location-tracking tool;
- a guarantee of any member's identity, age, conduct, attendance, or safety, or of a venue's access, hours, accessibility, or rules.
4. Your responsibilities when you meet people
Meeting a stranger carries real-world risk that no app can remove. You alone decide whether, when, and where to meet, and you are responsible for your own safety, transportation, boundaries and belongings. We recommend that you:
- meet in a busy public place;
- keep exact addresses and personal contact details private until you choose to share them;
- tell a trusted contact where you are going and when you expect to be back;
- arrange your own transportation;
- confirm the venue's rules, hours and accessibility directly with the venue;
- leave immediately if your boundaries are ignored, and report what happened.
5. Rules of conduct
The Community Standards are part of these Terms. In summary, you must not:
- buy, sell, source, transfer, deliver, arrange pickup of, advertise, or promote tobacco, cannabis, vaping products, alcohol, or any other regulated product, or use SocialSession for any commercial solicitation;
- harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, defame, impersonate, or sexually solicit another person, or post hate speech;
- publish anyone's private information — home address, exact coordinates, phone number, employer, or identity documents — including your own in a public listing;
- post sexual, violent, or otherwise adult-explicit content, or content that sexualises or endangers a minor;
- create an account for a minor, invite a minor to a meetup, or help anyone under 21 use the service;
- post false, misleading, spam, scam, phishing, or fraudulent content, or a photo that is not of you;
- infringe anyone's intellectual-property or privacy rights;
- break the law, or use the service to organise anything unlawful;
- scrape, reverse-engineer, overload, probe, or attempt to bypass the security, moderation or rate limits of the service, or use it with an automated agent;
- misuse the report system, retaliate against a reporter, or evade a block, suspension, or removal.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You grant J&A APPworks LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for display, and distribute your content solely to operate, moderate, secure, and improve SocialSession. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in backups until they expire and for records we must keep for safety, fraud prevention, disputes or law. You represent that you have the rights to what you post and that it does not violate these Terms.
7. Moderation, reports and appeals
- Every profile, meetup, message surface and member offers Report and Block. Reports go to a private safety queue.
- Profile photos are reviewed before other members can see them.
- We may remove or reject content, cancel a meetup, restrict discovery or hosting, suspend an account, or permanently remove an account.
- Suspending an account removes its Nearby presence and cancels the meetups it was hosting.
- A suspended member keeps access to enforcement receipts, one appeal per decision, and sign-out. A lead reviewer decides the appeal.
- Review is not real-time. We do not promise a response time, and we are not obliged to monitor content.
- Reporter identity and private reviewer notes are never disclosed to the person reported.
8. Copyright
If you believe content on SocialSession infringes your copyright, send a notice with the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) to our designated agent: [DMCA AGENT]. We may remove the content and terminate repeat infringers.
9. Ending your account
- You may stop using SocialSession at any time and permanently delete your account from Me → Account & notifications → Permanently delete account, or by writing to info@socialsessionapp.com. See Delete your account.
- We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or the Community Standards, if we are required to by law, or if your continued use presents a risk to other members. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and offer an appeal.
- Sections 6, 8, and 10 through 16 survive termination.
10. Changes to the service and to these Terms
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of SocialSession. If we materially change these Terms, we will post the new version here with a new effective date and ask you to accept it in the app before you continue to use the service. Your acceptance of each version is recorded.
11. Fees
SocialSession version 1.0 is free and contains no purchases, subscriptions, or advertising. If that ever changes, we will say so in advance and no charge will apply without your explicit agreement.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.
We do not verify members' identities, ages, statements, photographs, or intentions. We do not screen, endorse, or supervise members, meetups, venues, or activities, and we are not a party to your interactions with other members. Venue information may be inaccurate or out of date. You interact with other members and attend meetups at your own risk.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, J&A APPWORKS LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM ANOTHER MEMBER'S CONDUCT OR FROM ANY MEETUP, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (WHICH, FOR A FREE ACCOUNT, IS ZERO) OR ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of these sections may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless J&A APPworks LLC from any claim, liability, damage, loss, and reasonable legal fee arising out of your content, your use of the service, your conduct at a meetup, or your breach of these Terms or of the law.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You and J&A APPworks LLC agree that the state and federal courts located in [COUNTY, STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, and each party consents to personal jurisdiction there.
16. General
- These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Standards are the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
- If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor.
- Notices to you may be sent to your account email or shown in the app. Notices to us go to info@socialsessionapp.com and [MAILING ADDRESS].
- Legal process and law-enforcement requests: [LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTACT].
